One of my favorite movies is The Rocky Horror Picture show, and while it was made to be what it is, a cult classic, to me it always represented something about free expression. This film is way more than just a sweet transvestite from transexual Transylvania, it's about the people who made the film expressing themselves and those who love the film also expressing themselves. True, for some people, the idea of grown men in drag is a bit too much, but for others the idea of going to a theatre wearing little more than your birthday suit with many others dressed the same is the high point of their life. This film brings people together in their lingerie, and teaches us that it's okay to be an alien and feel out of place, because by the end of the movie everyone is dancing.
To me the justice issue this addressed where the stereotypes against the LGBT community. Yes, it was done in a comical way, and not everyone who enjoys the film is necessarily part of the LGBT community or sympathetic to the community. But by exploiting the stereotypes and putting them in film, I find empowerment against those who are anti-LGBT and homo-phobic.
I just love this film.

this song is about vandalism
Carrie Underwood- Before He Cheats
YouTube Video
Right now he's probably slow dancing
With a bleached-blond tramp
And she's probably getting frisky
Right now, he's probably buying
Her some fruity little drink
'Cause she can't shoot whiskey
Right now, he's probably up behind her
With a pool stick
Showing her how to shoot a combo
And he don't know
I dug my key into the side
Of his pretty little souped-up 4 wheel drive
Carved my name into his leather seat
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights
Slashed a hole in all 4 tires
And maybe next time he'll think before he cheats
Right now, she's probably up singing some
White-trash version of Shania karaoke
Right now, she's probably saying, "I'm drunk"
And he's a thinking that he's gonna get lucky
Right now, he's probably dabbing on 3 dollars
Worth of that bathroom Polo
Oh and he don't know
That I dug my key into the side
Of his pretty little souped-up 4 wheel drive
Carved my name into his leather seat
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights
Slashed a hole in all 4 tires
And maybe next time he'll think before he cheats
I might've saved a little trouble for the next girl
'Cause the next time that he cheats
Oh, you know it won't be on me!
No, not on me
'Cause I dug my key into the side
Of his pretty little souped-up 4 wheel drive
Carved my name into his leather seat
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights
Slashed a hole in all 4 tires
Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats
Oh, maybe next time he'll think before he cheats
Oh, before he cheats
Oh
So the justice issue in this song is that if your boyfriend cheats on you, you can destroy his car in revenge and you won't get in trouble. Despite the fact that people don this all the time to cheating partners, that is destroy some sort of property belonging to the wandering partner, it is technically vandalism. So here we have Carrie Underwood teaching our female youth a valuable lesson, if he cheats on you, then you vandalize his truck, but make sure you don't get caught. Also in the video Carrie is seen pushing people out of her way as she walks down the street, oh hey, that's called assault.

guest speaker
Since dr castle is the only person who ever reads my blog, and probably only does so since she has to, i'll be completely candid about my feelings regarding the presentation on suicide. obviously i walked out. i couldn't handle it, i couldn't deal. at the beginning of the semester i was engaged. i'm not anymore. 3 weeks ago, due to various reasons, we had a bad, messy, extremely emotional break up. 2 days after we broke up, my ex-fiancee attempted suicide. everything the speaker said just brought me right back to that night. he was going to kill himself and i couldn't stop him. he begged and begged me to take him back because he said if i wouldn't take him back he had nothing to live for. so i was either going to let him die or commit myself to an abusive, emotionally-destructive relationship. i ended up getting an emergency order from the magistrate in Harrisonburg to have him committed to the hospital in his area, as he was in a different location. i'm tortured by guilt and haunting thoughts that he will either become dislodged enough from reality to try to kill me or succeed in killing himself. i'm constantly afraid. my life has become a living hell. my only saving grace is when i'm around friends, that is the only time i feel safe. i trick myself into thinking that he won't try to hurt me when i'm around people, but i don't know. this blog took a much different turn from where it was supposed to be. but that's the truth. i find temporary happiness when i'm distracted by friends, family or class, but for the most part, i'm scared all the time. whatever. nobody reads this anyway.
